Transgender Clinic
Trudy, the director of Fleming Clinics has been known by the transgender community for more than 30 years as a specialist electrologist and educator. She has a genuine interest and compassion in this area of work and has many satisfied clients back in London where she spent her early working years and here in Melbourne. Although Trudy is unable to continue working with clients due to her teaching schedule, her staff, have taken over the role of managing the Transgender clinic. Nicolle is the specialist in our transgender unit. She is a laser and IPL technician, beauty therapist and teacher with many years experience. Please feel free to book a consultation with her to discuss your needs. Removal of beard hair has always been a part of the Gender Reassignment program. This is a tedious and slow process, but a necessary one. Electrolysis, the traditional method, is particularly uncomfortable and can take up to 3 years, and still need occasional 'maintenance' sessions. These days we prefer to offer Laser or Intense Pulsed Light, which has speeded the process up significantly. Whereas electrolysis could only treat sections of the face at a time, laser or pulsed light can treat the whole face in a single treatment in a matter of minutes. Fewer treatments are needed, and they are spaced further apart than with electrolysis. However, you are still likely to need some maintenance treatments occasionally. You will not get the healing problems or reactions with laser or pulsed light that you possibly have with electrolysis, and there is no long term risk of scarring. I can't say that pulsed light is 'permanent' [nothing is absolutely permanent] but it does get rid of the majority of hair quickly, easily, with minimal discomfort and no skin reactions. Although the cost of treatment sounds relatively expensive, it is cheaper than years of electrolysis. Some clients have laser or Intense Pulsed Light [IPL ] treatments to remove the bulk of the problem then revert to electrolysis to finish off the finer, thinner remnants left behind. Hair does have to have colour to respond to laser and IPL, so the darker the hair, the easier it is to treat. If your hair is blond, you will have no choice but to have electrolysis. In recent years it has been realised that hair removal is needed in the genital region too. Prior to reassignment surgery, hair needs to be removed from the shaft of the penis, around it's base, from part of the scrotum and from a small section of the perineum. In the past Trudy or her staff have treated this area with electrolysis, [at great discomfort to the clients!], now however, it can be removed with laser or Intense Pulsed Light with a lot more ease. Many clinics will refuse to treat this area due to embarrassment or lack of knowledge or understanding of the issues involved. In the Fleming Transgender Clinic, we have specialist staff who are happy to cater to your hair removal needs with confidence, tact, confidentiality and expertise. We are also able to treat pigmented lesions caused or exacerbated by sun exposure. Uneven pigmentation, sun spots, and freckles on the face, chest hands and arms are easily reduced with a specific application of Intense Pulsed Light. Vascular conditions, spider nevi, facial thread capillaries around the nose and cheeks can easily be removed with a specific filter on the IPL system. The Fleming Transgender Clinic is situated in our clinic in Highett. We are open till 7pm 4 evenings a week, and till 3pm on Saturdays. A consultation is needed to assess your individual case, take a history, fully explain the treatment process and perform test patches. If all is well, then treatment can start a week later.
