Laser Treatments
| Laser Treatments - Hair Removal The public only seem to know the name of laser when it comes to high tech hair removal systems, but in fact there is laser and Intense Pulsed Light [IPL]. They are both light sources, have similar effects on hair growth, but have distinct differences in the way the light is produced but. Laser consists of a beam of light with a single wavelength and colour. It is a powerful, narrow, concentrated beam. IPL consists of a wide range of wavelengths, and is a divergent beam. Both can be effective as hair removal systems, but there are times when one form or the other would be more appropriate. At the Fleming Clinics we offer both forms of hair removal [along with electrolysis]. During your consultation we will assess your individual concerns and needs then evaluate which is the most appropriate form of treatment. As experts and specialists in all forms of hair removal, we will be able to find a suitable treatment program for you. This might be one or a combination of modalities. A consultation needs to be performed to obtain important information before starting laser treatment. We need to check your medical history and find out what medications you may be taking as they could be contraindicated to laser treatment. Your Fitzpatrick skin type will be assessed. This categorizes your skin colour into one of six groups. Light [in the colour range used for hair removal] is attracted into melanin which is the colour pigment found in hair and in skin colour. The darker the skin, the riskier it is to treat that person as there is a possibility that the light will be absorbed into the skin colour and cause burning, blistering or colour changes in the skin. After categorizing the skin colour we can program our laser appropriately to avoid such a problem. As a final check we perform some test patches on the potential treatment site. If these patches look good, we will start hair removal treatment between one and three weeks later. Most areas of the body can be treated with laser. The most common areas for women are the face [lip and chin], under arms, bikini and legs. For men, the back and chest are the most commonly treated areas. Laser is an efficient form of hair removal, and eliminates on average about 80% of growth. There are two stages to the treatment program
Sun needs to be avoided for 6 weeks pre and post treatment during the treatment program, or a good sun-block applied regularly. Laser Hair Removal Treatment Prices
